Clemson vs Virginia preview

Last meeting:. On Feb. 12, Clemson beat No. 22 UVa 60-48 in Littlejohn. Clemson shot 46 percent and held UVa to just 18 percent from behind the arc.

Season story: In his fourth season as head coach of UVa Tony Bennett has guided the Cavs to a 10-3 non-conference record in November and December. The Cavaliers rely on their defense to win games and are holding teams to just 35.3 percent shooting. Thus far, UVA has suffered losses to George Mason, Delaware and Old Dominion. With the loss of PF Mike Scott (18.0 PPG, 8.3 RPG) to the NBA last season, the Cavs have relied heavily on the play of inside man junior Akil Mitchell (12.6 PPG, 9.3 RPG). UVa knocked off UNC at home, but traveled to Wake Forest last week and committed 17 turnovers and shot just 36 percent in a 55-52 loss.

What to watch for, per
-- Saturday’s game will feature two similar teams. Virginia is atop the ACC in scoring defense, yielding 51.1 points per game. But the Cavaliers are last in the league in scoring offense at 63.7 points per game. Clemson is third in scoring defense (57.1) and 11th in the ACC in scoring offense (64.7).
-- This will be the third straight game Clemson has faced one of the top three-point shooting teams in the ACC. The Cavs hit .388 of their long-range shots, third-best in the league.
-- Jordan Roper has played 20+ minutes in six consecutive games. The freshman guard out of Irmo High School has scored double figures in four of the six.
