  • Just committed to Florida .... visited the Gators today.

His dad -- as you know -- played for South Carolina.

Clemson had been very much in the mix .... Tigers were first to offer.

I seriously doubt the Tigers and Gamecocks will concede defeat here.

Im not surprised he chose Florida, though I think he fits the 3-4 Defense better like Bama and UGA or even FSU's defense.

  • Keith, honest question! I do not know this young man so please do not take this wrong. Do we really "want" him? Not from a talent standpoint, from a headache standpoint. Just things I have heard from different people. Maybe its his dad... I dont know!

  • Really couldn't say ...

I will only say that Clemson was the first to offer him .... and that in my conversations with him (all 2 of them) he was extremely complimentary of the Tigers and the CU staff.

I don't know what kind of headaches they've caused (if any at all) .... but in all my years of doing this I've noticed that about 90% of the time someone starts looking to be on his way to another school for some strange reason negative stuff about a kid and his family begins to leak out. Probably just a coincidence.

I'm not denying that isn't the case here .... I don't know. .... But what I do know is this: When someone can play, colleges rarely care about all that other stuff. That has been proven time and again throughout the country.

I can name headaches is every major college class this year.

  • Think he fits 3-4 much better than 4-3. He's talented enough to play WDE in a 4-3, but I think he could really shine as an OLB in the 3-4.

Most Gamecock people I've talked to said that having him on their team, with how his Dad talks on the radio, could lead to some PR nightmares.

  • I know that South Carolina was no longer recruiting him. I'm sure we will continue to recruit him, though. Frankly, I don't think he's a top 100 player.....certainly offer worthy, just a little overrated IMO.

Good luck to him, though. I know his Dad likes Venables but his dad is also a pretty big pain in the ass.
