For the record, Bama turned down Vonn Bell. He may end up one hell of a player, but Bama didn't have room. He waited too long.

So actually, you (Ohio State) were his second choice.

If that makes you feel better about it then I guess that's how it went down. But for the record, Bama will never not have enough room for a talent like Bell.

It's Bama......... they make room...........by yanking schollies from non-contributors, and using a ton of medical hardships and grey shirts (Bradley Bozeman-Alvin Kamara)

Theres headlines everywhere about that and a simple google search will reveal Saban's tactics.

Lol! I totally agree. I'm not mad a Saban, but that's how he does it! I not only googled it, but I am close to the recruiting game with some people I know. Not claiming to be an insider or anything but I coach high school track and I know people from all over the map from (former teammates and friends from college athletics who now coach as well). Of course I won't bring my sources to light, but it is what it is.

You must be joking. In what world do you think anyone would turn down any 5 star player? As if they are a dime a dozen... Jesus the ineptitude. They have too many quality young safeties. It was a depth chart issue. Ironically Eddie Williams is a felon now and he would have gotten in there sooner. But oh well, sucks to suck.

  • Good article as usual, Keith. Us Bucknutters sure due appreciate your contributions to our site. This recruiting sure is a fickle lady. Things have gotten real tight for this young man in the last couple months.

  • Yea, bama had no room.... but later in the day decided to flip a kicker...

So in essence: No room for 5* Bell, but when a 2* kicker comes calling, scholarships open up?

He didn't even need Kamara / he's not even really a Bama back persay............but when scholly limits don't really apply to you...........you can gobble up talent just to stay away from them in games.

If you remember, this is why the Glory days of the BIG 2 little 8 diminished. Damn schollie limits took place.

  • Ohio State has Kyle Berger and Donate Booker instate (Berger is really really under rated) they are most likely to go to OSU. They also have Clifton Garrett in the region. Ohio State is going to be extremely good with or without him. Preferably with him. He is a great looking prospect but then again so was Trey Depriest, Curtis Grant , and the number one overall linebacker that left Laokato West Ohio and signed with Texas......forgot his name.

Definitely no such thing as a sure thing.

  • They turned down Con Bell do to taking 26.9 prospects per year and being deep at safety. Nick Saban got his safety Landon Collins there. It wasn't cheap. They gave the girlfriend a job. Totally legal (now not). Over signing is really effective for success. It shits all over the kids in the big picture, but its the SEC. Championships trump players promises and future. They are like a NFL team who gets 11 picks a year for nothing. Let's also not forget the Bear Bryant scholarship that gives them 86. A scholarship named after a man who refused to recruit African American athletes. A racist p.o.s gets a scholly named after him. Only in the Sec.

NOBODY in the SEC recruited African-American Athletes until the late 1960s ... In that regard, Bear was no different than the others in the league.

And .... by the way ... it wasn't really up to the coaches.

It was up to administrators and the powers that be that ran the Southern states.

Disgusting history, for sure ... but you're a little too hard on Bear. I could be wrong, but I believe history shows he tried to sign African-American players as far back as the 50s.

LOL get off your high horse. Talking about racism in the 50's and 60's in 2013 is borderline retarded.

You better hope y'all get some of these defensive prospects, cause Ohio State's defense was hot garbage last year. It won't matter too much I guess cause y'all don't play anybody.

Buckeye fans, chill out. Let him add some suspense to his recruitment. Recruits get a kick out of that. He's ours to lose, you heard him. And honestly.........wasn't it much nicer knowing Vonn Bell trolled bama for 6 months before he gave them the thumbs down. Attending half the games that year........Love it.

Also about him playing beside Foster.........isn't that impossible because they would both be playing the same position, I never heard of him being projected to the outside. Don't know what thats about.?

One of the most clueless posts I've ever seen. From Bell to not understanding how a 3-4 defense works.

As far as the update goes, it would be funny to see an elite LB go to an offensive minded school in either the B1G or ACC over a defensive minded school in the SEC, especially one that runs a 3-4 (Bama/UGA/UF) which showcases it's LB's better than any other D.

Start following OSU football when Meyer was hired?

We're greyshirting Alvin Kamara? News to me.

Also, Vonn Bell didn't receive NLOI papers from Bama (confirmed), and multiple people close to him confirmed contact died down before Jackson even committed to Bama... I know the prospect of Meyer beating Saban at something is exciting for you guys, but it didn't happen this time. Sorry man.

We offered the kicker... a preferred walk-on opportunity.

Also, Tony Conner told our staff as late as Tuesday night he was committing... the night before Bell received no signing papers.

    So many misinformed people ITT.

Unless it's OSU and Meyer. Where Meyer has put just about the same amount of players on D in the league as his offensive players. And OSU has a mighty fine track record with LB's.

I didn't say Kamara was grayshirting, they didn't know they were getting Kamara late, so to make room, I feel this is why Bozeman was offered the GS.

And excuse me for thinking the 4th LB would be a backer with more speed to cover sideline to sideline. OSU doesn't run that system.

    Anyways................Back to you Dan.
