Quotes from new Big 12 commisioner Bob Bowlsby. Pay special attention to his "landscape" comments in the first quote. His term started today.
“I think the Big 12 can do anything the Big 12 wants to do,” he said. “The landscape is changing quickly and we’re going to need to change with it. ... It’s not a geographic footprint anymore. We’re talking about an electronic footprint.”
“I’m not going to presume a direction we will go,” he said. “It has to be expansion that has at its roots enhancement of the league. There is nothing magic about 11, 12 or 10. To the extent that we can advance our agenda, we ought to at least consider that. We are very excited about the 10 we have right now.”
Very nice. Starting to feel better about our chances again. Swaim made the other day quite depressing for me.
Doesn't tdp want swaim to put out bad info to protect Clemson?
Good post Cory...
As I said before... anyone who thinks we are suddenly "out" doesn't have any common sense and doesn't pay attention.
Bowlsby's quotes + Wilkins "non statements" + BCS format + ACC's incompetence = change
This is the statement he made at his presentation several weeks ago correct?
correct, that was from the big 12 mtgs a couple weeks back ....
also from todays comments. Nothing has changed
Feeling the same way, Chief. "Electronic footprint". If I was running the B12, I'd want FSU for Florida, CU for SC&GA, ND for USA, and NCS or UNC for NC. I could also see WVU pulling in UMD. WVU & UMD have played each other for about 50 years now and they recruit the state plus UMD brings in the DC and Balt "Electronic footprint" If any of this happens the Big XII will be have Great competitive teams, good people and an awesome conference to play in.
When it comes down to money anything can happen, but I have always believed they added WVU to build more teams around. Not just for another member. Some Texas fans don't see the value in Clemson, but you have always been 1 or 2 on my wish list. I would perfer Clemson over ND.
We have been going to a Clemson game every year for the past few years and you do it right.
Agree. I would prefer Clemson over ND any day of the week. If ND wants to come in as a full member in the future, fine. But no hybrid members. IMO Clemson has one of the most loyal fanbases in the country, and would fit in nicely with other Big 12 fanbases culturally. Again, please pay no attention to Swaim. He honestly hasn't got a clue.
As a fan, I would like to see several thousand Burnt Orange hats and shirts in your stands every two to four years. To much of the realignment talk is only about football, but I believe the Big 12 would greatly benefit in all sports by adding Clemson and Florida state.
