Countdown is on for Williams

  • Paul Strelow said...

More pertinent question: Are we to believe what Williams is saying publicly right now? And if so, can USC dig in and change his mind (again) in the matter of a week?

Not sure a week is a big deal to be honest. It's a long time to February. I doubt either team will quit recruiting him regardless of his announcement.

We certainly had no Watkins last year, but we have several young receivers that will hopefully step up this year, (hopefully)! I saw enough from Hopkins in one game last year to know that I am glad we didn't have his "depth" on our side of the ball.

    lol

Watkins, Hopkins, Brown, Bryant, and Peake are all better than every WR SCar has.

So you don't want Hopkins' 978 yards? I guess you're satisfied with Ace Sanders' whopping 383.

I guess that is impressive for a guy that's only 5'6".

    1) One game does not indicate whether one group is better than the other

    2) I didn't realize that both sets of WRs went up against the same defense. :themoreyouknow:

    RGClemson05

  • Not sure how statistics from 1 regular season game out of 12 makes for good comparison about both teams' units overall production and skill level

    Double_J

  • While this is dumb. how about a game where all receivers matched up against the same defense? It's as apples to apples as you'll get. Let’s take a look at Auburn …

    REC YDS AVG TD LG
    S. Watkins
    10 155 15.5 2 65
    D. Hopkins
    7 83 11.9 1 23
    D. Allen
    7 80 11.4 1 23
    C. Peake
    2 41 20.5 0 24
    J. Brown
    2 22 11.0 0 16
    M. Bellamy
    1 4 4.0 0 4
    A. Ellington
    1 1 1.0 0 1

    REC YDS AVG TD LG
    A. Jeffery
    5 86 17.2 1 50
    B. Ellington
    3 60 20.0 0 35
    B. Wilds
    1 14 14.0 0 14

In all honesty, I'd take Alshon over everyone but Watkins, Hopkins, and Allen. After that, I'm pretty sure Clemson has the edge. This "debate" will rage on I'm sure.

I maintain that this is what it all boils down to right now.

Are we to believe what Williams is saying publicly?

And I've heard things that go both directions.

  • just so you guys know we are not going to your site to just start up arguements or comment on your articles the articles are on our website as well so if you don't want us on your site tell 247 to have articles individual instead of them to connecting to anyone that recruits the kids.

look foward to this year guys good luck with your season and hopefully we will have a top 10 matchup this year.

For the record, a few posts have been deleted and a few blacklists issued, as I'm not going to let this diverge into an insult contest between rival fans. Plain and simple, nothing personal.

    Thanks,

    Management

Paul, simple suggestion...if you don't want Gamecock fans coming over here and posting harsh replies to clemson fans remarks then, perhaps it would be best to post seperate stories on each site rather than linking the story from our home page. Just a suggestion.

I don't mind Gamecock fans coming over for discussion. I enjoy it. A lot of people have a hard time realize there are other planets in the universe and I welcome the differing perspective ... So long as that perspective is factual and fair. For instance, are the negatives identified along with the positive. It's good for everyone involved to hear both sides of the story.

  • I've heard Dabo and company explained to Williams (and every prospect who is considering South Carolina, for that matter) that Steve Spurrier is retiring soon. Can't he just stick with what works for him, i.e. the Holy Bible, "family" and possibly getting away with crime, as opposed to mudslinging at USC's expense? He isn't running for political office.

    Sensing some mad from you

Your main pitch is to come play in the SEC

Not the positives to your program, which I understand because there arent many

    clemsontyger04

  • Also you're being a complete homer to take your receiving corps over Clemson's

    clemsontyger04

  • Hope we get him but if not we have to keep on recruiting and can't worry about the past.

Folks, I didn't link the story from your home page. The story is slotted to TBS from the Clemson247 page.

Either way, this is the network set-up. It ain't a changing. I was just asking for civility.

Nobody with any semblance of college football knowledge - and a functioning brain - would take SCar's WR corp over Clemson's WR Corp. Nobody. There is a significant gap in talent between the two.

Last year, wrong (all you had to do was watch the game). This year, right (we are very young and have little experience at WR). However, I'd take our guys at every other position on the field. Coaches too. If you're selling the better team, we know who that is...

If that's what Dabo is pitching (along with the other things), what is he pitching that isn't true or something that isn't kind of known by every other program who are pitching the same thing? Spurrier has said a few times that he's got a few years left in him when asked about how long he wants to continue coaching, never saying he doesn't see retiring anytime soon... its just common knowledge... just like i'm sure the SCar staff is stil trying to recruit the QB out of Pennsylvania that was choosing between SCar and Penn State before committing to PSU by reiterating the facts of the bowl ban, scholly limitations, ect... Just common knowledge that those things are going to happen, so why not point that out in one's recruitng pitch... that's part of the game

Who gives a crap? Tajh cant throw from his back. Your oline is garbage which is equally or more important to your passing game success than your WR corps.
