Did Dabo just sink our Big XII chances?

  • Dabo called Clemson "one thousand percent committed" to ACC. Said leaving for Big 12 "worst thing Clemson could do."

If we are truly pushing for a Big XII move, Dabo just cut the decision makers' legs out from under them.

It doesn't worry me. Sounds like he is trying to salvage current recruiting... Or maybe he doesn't want to play the Texas, Ok State, etc.. teams... Or maybe he really, really wants to be in the SEC.

Either way, his thoughts will have zero impact on this decision IMO

He isn't the decision maker, but your head coach saying going to the Big 12 is the worst thing Clemson could do affects the decisions you can make.

Given the importance of this Big 12 decision, it appears that Dabo is trying to solidify his place as the actual worst thing that's happened to Clemson.

  • Every Texas A&M coach & the Texas A&M AD were against the SEC move - and we know what happened. This decision is above his pay grade.

Funny thing, Dabo didn't feel any need to talk about Clemson joining the SEC or the Big 10 or any other conference.....I wonder why? biggrin

  • Wow - I sure didn't see this coming. I thought he was in favor of this. This doesn't give me a very good feeling. I know it is said he doesn't make the decisions - but dang he is a good salesman. I'm worried that he will influence those that DO make the decisions banghead

Does anyone have a link for this quote? I can't find it anywhere.

  • Something to consider, Dabo has offer on kids in Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Illinois. Multiple offers in Texas in Oklahoma. How is ok to recruit there now? Clemson is spending money to recruit there as it is.

Mark Ingram was from Michigan. He won a Heisman and played for Bama. Matthew Stafford was from Texas, Knowshon Moreno was from BN and played at UGA.

The notion that recruiting isn't national silly.

  • IMO Dabo is firing a public salvo against a move to the Big XII because he knows the prospects of his coaching, long term, are better off in the leaky-roofed ACC than in the deeper waters of the Big XII. He also knows there is support among the BOT for this move, and he has to face them tomorrow and is essentially already a line in the sand as to where he stands. Fortunately, a decision of this magnitude will be reached among those entrusted to look out for the institution in the short term and beyond, long after Dabo Swinney and the rest of us are old are gone.

As to his argument for recruiting, I certainly hope he's bringing more than that to support his cause. Florida State is having no issues maintaining a high level of recruiting even with all the speculation and their own poor public relations. I think it's just a cop out on his part, as recruiting is a national game supported by the fact that Clemson has multiple offers out in states far away from Death Valley. Not to mention, Clemson will have to play road contests every other year in Syracuse, Boston, College Park and Winston Salem, with three of those locations well away from Clemson. It's just a weak argument, and it basically boils down to him not wanting to walk in the tall grass with the big boys.

Because a Clemson move to the SEC would actually make sense to Dabo Swinney?

I have to say that Tuxedoyoda has gone full retard.
