What kind of player is Clemson getting in 2014 offensive lineman Taylor Hearn of Williston (S.C.) Williston Elko, who committed to the Tigers on Monday night?

  • So an OL from this state that the coots didnt offer, hmmmm

I'm going to go with Paul on this one. I think it's a good pickup. From Paul last night:

This is a nice get for Clemson that will invariably simmer under the radar, a la Maverick Morris. I really like him. IMO, Hearn (whom I think is a guard) is a top 10-15 prospect in S.C. for the '14 cycle. He's tough and fits the mold of the Chad Morris offensive lineman.

If shaun elliot didnt go after him, Ill wait and see. In no way am I calling it a bad pickup though but to me its a little red flag that they didnt offer.

Definitely a top 20 in state guy IMO, but not sure about top 15. next year is loaded in state, so that's not a slam on the kid. If he was a 2013, he's definitely be top 15.

Also, I wouldn't worry much about Elliot not offering. South Carolina is limited on schollies for next year, and lead on two big time tackles. They probably only take 2-3 OL next year, so they aren't going to offer a guy like Hearn early because he's in state, and they don't want to have to pull the offer.

There are so many good DL and OL in state next year, and Hearn is one of two or three OL at that same level.

  • I wish we would go after more OL each year instead of moving guys like tra thomas and maybank over just to have numbers. Two guys that will NEVER see the field as OL

To be hinest with Region's weight still a concern and the two guys you mentioned, I'm surprised you didn't sign 4 this year. MM is solid and will develop, Crowder is an excellent prospect, and will be big time once they reshape his body a bit.

I honestly cant figure out what their thinking is regarding OL. I like moving McCalin over I think that was their thinking when they signed him but IMO we should be signing 3-4 every yr and weeding out the weak links like the coots do

I think you are getting some quality guys last year and this, but the prior couple years were not very good and there is too much dead weight. Agreed, Dabo needs to thin the herd, and bring in young guys.
