Okay. ... are you happy?

  • Now that you've had a chance to digest things, how do you feel about the Clemson class?

    Keith Niebuhr

  • I am, still dissappointed in not getting adams or another bigtime DE. IMO I just wish we wouldve oversigned at OL and cut some dead weight, but all in all I am pleased

    jvtiger77

  • Really good....we brought in a lot of depth and talent in the secondary and filled a lot of depth with some good looking prospects.

Disappointed in what could have been an all-time class? Yes. We had Nkemdiche and Daniel committed and were right in the thick of it for Adams and Lawson, finishing second for both. Would have been nice to close with 2/4 of those guys. We really needed an elite edge rusher in this class and didn't land one, though we still signed some good developmental players at DE

I think we only have a couple of reaches in this class, Greenlee and Carter, but I understand the reasoning for both. We've taken many guys with more questions that Carter, and he comes from a good school we may be able to mine for talent for some time.

Most existed about Alexander. I think he can start next year. I'm also intrigued about Kearse, Tyshon Dye and O'Daniel. I think all 4 have the makings of impact players early in their careers.

Overall very satisfied. Good job by Dabo and staff.

    Hanan

  • Yes.

It was going to be tough to land the big-time d-linemen. RNk is going to play with his brother. Lawson liked Auburn all along, but simply looked around to make sure it was right. Daniel would not have qualified at Clemson. Adams was close, but it is hard to argue with his decision.

Great pickups at RB, LB, two solid O-Linemen, one DT, still got three DEs. WR didn't shake out the way anyone would have hoped, but these commits will have a chance to shine in the offense if capable.

How could we have done better at DB? One of the best CBs plus a few more that could be really good, and solid pickups at Safety. This was a HUGE day for Reed and Venables.

I would imagine OL, DL, and WR, as well as holding the Watson commitment, to be the goals of 2014.

    Is it August yet?

  • Thats a battle we now have to start winning is the big time DL in sec territory. I couldnt care less about losing daniels. I think shaq lawson and Ebo will give us elite DEs, maybe not right away though. This is got to be a top 5/3 secondary class. We definitely have two big time LBs and I think we may have struck gold with the two RBs.

I hope so Keith, cause everyone on this board has been acting like women these last couple days.

Think this is a very fair assessment, the Alexander pick up was huge because of the need att he position. The DL guys would have been huge but with what's returning in 13 it wasn't an urgent need.

Also, despite Crowder being the second highest rated commit, I think both RB's and Boulware and O'daniel at the LB spots are much more impactful signings. OL by its nature is developmental and a numbers game, so he's probably 3 years away from contributing, whereas all these guys have a shot to find their way onto the field much quicker.

  • You really like Tank. I think the more I sit and think about it, the more I like it. I still wish we would have over signed on the OL and DL but regardless I really like the class.

    jvtiger77

  • No issues nothing to see here,,,,,move along

    jvtiger77

  • If we would of missed on Alexander not at all. But right now, I am yes, finishing in the top 12-14 is good, but to think what could of been with what we had and barely missed out on really stings. We addressed significant needs but missed on a couple possible game changers.

    ChasTiger80

  • Hard not to be fairly satisfied. Sure, we are all disappointed about Adams and the other poaches, but the rest of the class is pretty solid. Alexander was huge today and several other guys I like. I rate it a B+

  • Biggest miss in the class is Adams, but overall happy with the class.

Load up on the line next year.

I think next year we are going to have to do some roster maintenance next year, because if we can only take 12-14 kids, we are going to be in trouble.

  • I am happy that we address the needs on our defense! The Secondary needs was very important. Yes it would have been nice to land Adams, but look at what we have returning in that position I am okay with it. Great last minute Grind CU!!!!!!! #All In

    BigKim1968

  • Very pleased with the class... I still can't believe we missed on Adams when we lead for him 4 days ago, that's pretty disheartening

    But overall good class

No way in haitis we take less than 20 next year

By my count we have 10 seniors and one very likely early departure, so 11 spots open up:

    Boyd
    Thomas
    McDowell
    Catanzaro
    Robinson
    Shuey
    Shatley
    Smith
    Christian
    Fagjenbaum
    Watkins

We will no doubt have some attrition, non-qualifier, disciplinary issue, etc. that will open up a couple of spots, so that would increase the number to say 13.

I think there are about 7-8 guys who need to show something between now and next January or they may be eased out the door:

    Parker
    McNeal
    Webster
    MacLain
    T. Thomas
    Maybank
    Region

At the most I see 20 spots, but it's doubtful you'll have 9 guys leave through attrition/forced out. That just seems high. I'd say we come in around 16 next year, which means we should be very selective about takes early in this cycle.

This far we have 5 commitments in the '14 cycle (Hearn, Cook, Oglesby, Smith and Watson). All 5 looks to be solid prospects, so realistically we will probably have only 10 more takes if we can hang on to these guys.

Things always have a way of working themselves out IMO Tra thomas, Maybank, Region, Mcneal need to go. Also Lakip is transfering and theres a few walkons that are on scholly that you can pull to add room.

There will be 11 scholarships available. I'm not sure 9 more will free up.
