  • Yes, good pickup ....

Funny, this is the 3rd team he's committed to.

    First, UGA.
    Then, NC State
    Now, Clemson

  • See, I'm glad you brought that up.

This is why I get offended when fans rip a kid for DE-committing by saying he's not loyal .... but are cool when a kid flips from somewhere else to THEIR program.

Bottom line: This is a business decision for these kids. We should always respect that.

  • I hold Clemson's recruiting to a higher standard. Dabo makes it known to commits what he expects.

No visits, all in 100%. If they want to take visits, than don't commit-just keep Clemson in mind.

Therefore, yes I do get far more offended when a Kid decommits from Clemson, than when a kid decommits else where.

  • and despite this being a "business" decision, you have to have a sense of responsibility and understand what a commitment is. I wouldn't want ANYONE who decommitted to come back...that includes Nkemdiche. There will always be good football players who want to play at Clemson.

You wouldn't want Robert back? Really?

All of that drama was driven by his mother, so yes, I would certainly take him back. I agree 100% with what saber is saying, though.

I think most people understand it's a big decision and their decision, and that they are apt to change their minds. The problem some people have is late changes after they've been committed for a long time. If a staff has reserved a spot for a guy they feel has been firmly committed, and shut down their board at that position, it really makes it tough on a staff to recover late in the game.

The other issue is guys committing when they really aren't sure. I realize some staffs push these guys to commit during camps, but I think some tell them to make sure they are positive before they commit so there is no flipping later in the game.

I think an early signing period would cut out some of this nonsense, but I have no idea if or when that would ever materialize. NSD has become such a huge day I doubt the powers that be would want to lose that.

    You may be right ...

Problem is, so many coaches come and go.

I'm starting to think there really is no easy answer.

Maybe, Feb, should be considered the early signing period. And the late period should be at the end of the school year. By then, all the coaching chances have been made.

I think you'd have to have an out clause if the head coach left or if the program were hit with probation, but it would still cure a lot of the late flips. I think Dabo has mentioned before he's in favor of it, but with NSD such a media sensation now, I doubt the recruiting services and networks would jump on board.

  • Good deal about priester need clark and woulard also

    jvtiger77

  • Yes, I wouldn't want Robert back.

Also, yes I am cool with a kid committed elsewhere visiting Clemson.

All that means is he isn't 100% to the other school. Similarly, if a kid committed to Clemson visits elsewhere they aren't 100% all in and clemson should continue recruiting at that position.

Clemson isn't in charge of what recruitment means to OTHER schools...only what it means to them.

  • Coaches coming and going is fine. It is the recruits job to KNOW that coaches could leave.

If they are going to decommitt when a coach leaves than DONT COMMIT EARLY IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Keep Clemson as your leader or whatever, and commit late in the process...

Same with Deshaun...yes he is an ELITE qb, but he is heavily tied to Morris. I understand he committed really early in the process and he was young, but I really don't like the commitment.

I am EXTREMELY proud of our staff for going after Asiantii this cycle.

    saber8689

  • People always say you have to recruit like the SEC to beat the SEC...over-signing, letting commits take visits and what not.

I don't believe that is the case. We beat LSU...yes its only 1 game but it proves we have the ability to be a top 10 team and potential NC by recruiting the way we are. We really weren't that over-matched by SCar this year...we could have won the game. They were the better team, but it wasn't as big a chasm as it seemed.

Anyway, I'm done ranting. I appreciate all the recruiting coverage Keith!
